Artist Statement

Artist Statement

I love telling stories. I want to create games that audiences will love. I want to share my ideas and my stories. I dream of a little studio in the woods where I can create anything and everything I’d ever want to make. I love environments that tell a story, whether they are created in films where you can almost taste the sea salt in the air, or in video games where it feels as if you could reach out and feel the grooves carved into the walls. I desire my creations to follow people into their dreams, I want my art to convince the audience that there very well could be a monster hiding under their bed, that fairies exist, or that there is a starving kelpie waiting at the lakes edge. I want to invoke these thoughts and feelings into my audiences, I yearn to create that same feeling of wonder I used to feel when I was younger. Where I was convinced that the flood existed, that I could be a pilot and have a giant mech, that faeries changed the seasons. I don’t care to be limited by hierarchical decisions and by people who only care about the sum total the creation will make.

I strive to create these experiences with lighting, using direction and colors to convey the mood and the emotions I want present in the scene. Using VFX I can create points of interests and ambient effects that draw the player further into the world. Together they create enticing experiences which mimic the real world and can potentially create alien experiences for the player depending on the world being sold.

I don’t want to be limited by hierarchical decisions and by people who only care about the sum total the creation will make. I understand money is an integral part of living and creating. That’s fine, there is nothing wrong with making a game for the core reason of making a buck. But, I’m tired of cash grabbing, soulless, bug filled, ill planned games. Money is a necessity. I love making money, I like working and making money to pay for the things I like. I will need to make money to have a little cabin in the woods, to pay for the software  and licenses I’d need for what I love. But there does come a time where enough is enough. I don’t believe in abusing my players for every dollar they have tucked away. If I made a game one way and allowed my players a chance to earn things for free, then I would keep it that way. I won’t suddenly change it for the sole purpose of appeasing some big wig who saw how much money we were making and decided to try and triple it to appease some other big wig. A big wig who has no consideration for the creative endeavors undertaken for the project who doesn't give a shit about the people behind the scenes and behind the screens.

I like telling stories, I like creating stories, and I love to share my stories. Without being told what I can or can’t do. I can play house, I can play nice, but I don’t want my career or my life to be filled with people telling me what to do.

A-Stage Medusa

 A-Stage Medusa

Redid visuals for start menu, changed the lighting, added a flicker effect to the torch light and subtle dust motes (particle). Added a path into oblivion. Implemented new font for the text.

For the game space, added the function to light the interactable torch, as well as having it turn off when dropped, and since the last submission, updated the lighting to include the BP_SkySphere to play with the horizon colors.
