New textures created and made into sprite sheets, the animations run on a material flipbook.
I added sparks into the firing to fill in some of the empty space.
I also changed up the stars so they match the muzzle flash and create a sprite sheet for them too. The stars work by being children to a parent that is spawning a bunch of sprites that the stars trail.

Texture Creation

I took some ducks and committed war crimes against them. I separated the duck from its background.
I killed the saturation on them so that they were grayscale added some filter layers like Ocean Ripple and Spatter to get this.
Then I played with the levels of the image to get various tones in the duck, so it wasn't all so uniform. After I distorted the image, elongating and warping it to the shape and length I needed.
The white spaces can be removed with the color range selection if you don't like them.
After that I used a couple of the blur options like radial and gausian to break up the look of the duck.
And I get a little something like this, I go back in with a brush and break up anymore sections I want and add more value back in, after adding with the brush (in another layer) I then add the blur filters back on top to meld it back into the original.
These are the textures I created with my ducks and other objects like a tree.
